Today, in every country in the world, in thousands of languages, in hundreds of musical styles, all over the globe, people are celebrating the fact that Jesus Christ did not stay dead.
Lots of people pretended to be messengers of God throughout history. Only one proved it by saying “I’m God, I’m going to let you kill me for your sins, and then I will rise from the dead.” And it split history!
Difference between resuscitation and resurrection. Resuscitation happens all the time. People are in a hospital, and their heart stop for 30 minutes, or an hour and a half, and they come back. Happens all the time. Resurrection is when you die, you are buried, and three days later your rise. Jesus proved what he was saying.
Now, you can fake your own death, but you can’t fake being alive for 2000 years. Nobody claims that Mohammed, or Buddha, or Aristotle, or Moses is still alive. Jesus is unique. And this weekend, literally millions of people will give a testimony of a personal encounter with living Jesus Christ. Your own birthdate is settled according to Jesus Christ!! And today billions of people celebrate that he died for us on the Cross, and resurrected.
And so, what is Jesus doing now? And for the last 2000 years? Practicing golf? Learning new hobbies? Could you give the list of the things Jesus has been doing? The Bible does.
1) He is building a family to love forever
He planned this since forever. That’s why he created the universe! God wanted a family. Ep 1,5. Circle always. “This gave him great pleasure”. Why? Because God – is – love. He doesn’t “have” love, he is love. All love comes from God. Your ability to give and receive love comes from God. The only reason there is love in this world is because the Creator is love. God love for your is unconditional, is continual, is extravagant, is unearned, and never stops. God loves you because of who he is, not because of what you do. When you understand that, life will start to make sense. If you’ve never made the experience of God’s love for you, you are missing the purpose of your life.
God’s family is unlike any other. A human family is temporary. People grow up and leave. There are separations and deaths. But God’s family will last forever.
And God wants you to develop the characteristics of his family. Rm 8,29. Circle the “many”. God wants a big family! That’s why Jesus is delaying is return! The name of God’s family is “the Church”. So in the Church, God makes us his brothers and sisters. Now it’s your choice. And not everybody choses to say yes.
Now, God gets to choose the criteria of who gets in, as you chose who gets into your home. And it’s very simple: put your faith in Jesus as your Saviour, and recognize “I can’t save myself”. Jesus gave his life for you by dying on the Cross, so that you can have your past forgiven, you can have a purpose for living, and a place in heaven. Nobody on Earth can possibly match that offer! Because nobody else has ever died for you. Ga 3,26-28.
Now before to go further, a little check on God’s family (statistics of April 2024 – Center for the Study of global Christianity).
Ø There are 2.6 billion Christians around the globe. That makes the Church by far the biggest organizations in the world. The Church is bigger than China, and USA, and Europe put together! One out of three persons in the world is following Christ.
Ø Since 2000 the Christian population has grown faster than the global population.
Ø Pentecostal and evangelicals are growing twice as fast as the global population.
Ø Atheism is declining. 165 million out of 3.5 billion in 1970. 138 million out of 7.9 billion in 2022.
Where do you hear this in the media?
So the first thing Jesus is doing right now is building his family, and guess what: it’s growing.
2) He is keeping his family secure
He is doing this since the resurrection. He doesn’t want to lose his children!
You can’t save yourself, and you can’t either keep yourself saved! That’s Jesus second job. He keeps us going towards heaven. Jn 10,27-28. When does eternal life begin? Most people think: when you die. Wrong! It begins the moment you invite the one who is eternal life into your life. 2 Tm 1,12b. Jn 17,9.11.15.20 (brief comment on each quote). That’s why some of you will make the decision to join Jesus today: because he’s been praying for you for a very long time… He 7,24-25. Intercede = advocate. In heaven God is talking about you since forever! Because he loves you! Because God is love.
3) Jesus is preparing a home for us
Before going to the Cross, Jesus was thinking of you. And here is what he said. Jn 14,2-3.
God created the world in seven days, but he’s been preparing heaven for 2000 years. What kind of decorating job is this?? I’m telling you: it’s going to blow your mind. It’s absolutely impossible to imagine how cool heaven is going to be. I can’t tell you who it will be, but I can tell you: I want you to be there. And it’s not automatic: you can chose to love him, and you can refuse to.
4) Jesus is waiting for us to finish our assignment
And this assignment is the Great Commission. It’s not a “bonus”, it’s not for priests and nuns. It’s for everybody, and it’s mandatory. Why?
(1) God wants a big family
(2) It’s criminal not to do it. If you have the cure for cancer and AIDS and Alzheimer and keep it for you, you are a criminal and deserve to be put in prison. If you are here, it’s because somebody told you. Somebody fulfilled the Great Commission. Imagine if someone gets to hell because you didn’t tell him, and he comes to you when Judgment comes, like “what part of the Great Commission didn’t you understand??”
(3) The timing of Jesus come-back depends on it.
So here is what glimpse at Heaven: Ap 7,9-10.
So say yes to God in your life. Please, please, please. It will change your life. (Long exhortation) Ac 10,35. [Finish by praying together. Commitment of faith.]
